Delicious Meatballs in Red Sauce (Soutzoukakia)

Recipe for 4-6 people

500g mixed minced meat (beef, pork)
3/4 cup bread crumbs
2 eggs
2 onions, grated
2 cloves garlic, mashed
1 cup chopped parsley
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon cumin powder
Salt and pepper
3 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

For the sauce:
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 large ripe tomatoes, grated
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, powdered
Salt and pepper


Place all ingredients for meatballs in a large bowl and knead with your hands. Shape the meatballs in a medium size and array on a platter.
Heat the olive oil in a non-stick frying pan and fry the meatballs until lightly browned externally. Remove and leave aside until the sauce is ready.
In a second pan place the olive oil, grated tomatoes, sugar, cinnamon and a little salt and pepper and simmer on medium heat. As soon as the sauce starts to boil add the meatballs and cook all together for about 10 minutes.
Serve with boiled rice and yogurt. Enjoy!
