Monte Cristo/Christo Sandwiches (Xs’ Own Version)

Recipe for 2

Ingredients:
6 slices white bread
4 slices turkey breast
4 slices ham
6 thin slices cheese (choose two types: e.g. edam, and gouda)

Batter:
1 egg
1 1/4 cups water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1.5 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
vegetable oil (for deep frying)

Preparation:
First prepare the batter: In a mixing bowl place the egg and water and beat to mix. Add salt, sugar, flour, and baking powder and continue mixing until smooth.
Prepare the first sandwich: Place 2 slices turkey and 2 slices of cheese on one slice of bread. Place 2 slices ham and 1 slice of cheese on another slice of bread. Place third slice in between and secure the triple decked sandwich in the four corners with tooth picks. Repeat the same procedure for the second sandwich.
In a deep frying pan preheat enough vegetable oil.
Dip sandwiches in batter and carefully cover all the sides.
Carefully place in preheated vegetable oil and fry until golden. When golden brown on all sides remove from pan and place on paper towel and drain.
Let the sandwiches cool for a couple of minutes before removing the tooth picks. Cut into quarters and serve while still hot.
Serve with French fries and strawberry or cherry jam on the side. Enjoy!
